What type of air conditioner problem are you having?

Your AC's circuit breaker may have been tripped:

Try this:

  • Find your breaker box and look for the circuit labeled “air conditioner”
  • Try flipping that circuit to “off” and then “on”
  • Give your air conditioner a couple minutes and see if it comes on now

Your air filter may be dirty

Check your filter and change it if it’s visibly dirty.

This can be caused by the disconnect being off

Find the grey box generally affixed to your house that is wired in to the air conditioner outside.  Open the front door and check to see if the plug or the switch is set to the on position.

*Caution*  There will be high voltage to the disconnect.  This box is here so that we can kill power to the unit before it is worked on.  If you don’t feel comfortable checking this, please contact us for service.

Let's check the blower function on your furnace.

  • At the thermostat turn the fan to the on position and feel for air flow at the registers
  • listen for the blower at the furnace itself.

Is the blower motor running in the furnace and attempting to move air?

Is there ice building up around the copper tubing leading into the evaporator coil? (The box above the furnace)

If the refrigerant charge is off significantly it may cause the evaporator coil to freeze up during operation.  Once frozen it is difficult to push air through a block of ice and results in reduced air flow to the house.

Sounds like you need expert care

Please turn the system “off” at the thermostat, but turn the fan to the “on” position.  The evaporator coil needs to be completely thawed out before we are able to diagnose and work on the system.  Turning the fan to the on position will make the furnace blow warm air from the house over the block of ice and thaw it out quickly.
